AEW World Champion MJF has himself a new best friend ahead of the upcoming AEW Tag Team Blind Eliminator tournament, that being his current rival Adam Cole.
The pair are set to kick off their run in the tournament on tonight’s AEW Dynamite show, taking on two competitors yet to be announced.
The two shared a promo segment on Dynamite last month, with MJF telling the story of how he looked up to Cole during his time on the independents when MJF first broke into the business.
Adam Cole spoke on the Superstar Crossover, where he detailed an early meeting he had with MJF when he had just started in his career.
He said:
“I actually met MJF when he was very, very early on in his career. From the moment I saw him, and I mean this, this is regardless of what I think about him personally, but from the moment I saw him, I knew he was super talented. He was one of those guys who got it very, very early on. He was someone who put just as much time and energy into his promo work as he did into his bell-to-bell in-ring competition work.
“So yeah, he was incredibly talented from a very young age. He was definitely one of those guys that when I saw I was like, ‘Oh, this is gonna be a guy I’m gonna be seeing a lot more of.'”
MJF has taken measures to improve his relationship with Cole, which included recently calling him up while he was live on Twitch.
Cole discussed MJF’s call, simply saying:
“I don’t know why I picked up, I don’t know. It was so silly. I don’t even know why I picked up.”
