Adam Copeland Believes Christian Cage Was ‘Limited’ Before Joining AEW AEW

Adam Copeland has reflected on the work of Christian Cage in AEW and how it is some of the best in his career.

Copeland and Cage have a wrestling career that spans back to the early 90s, arriving in WWE separately but quickly going on to form a tag team that would go on to be legendary.

Copeland would remain in WWE until his departure in September 2023 while Cage would head to TNA after his own departure in 2005.

TNA wasn’t the only destination for Cage during this period, as he would also appear in NJPW and across the independent circuit before returning to WWE in 2009 until he effectively retired in 2014, then a brief return in 2020 before leaving in early 2021.

A return to TNA would be brief with Cage signing with AEW in March 2021 being joined by Copeland in October 2023.

Copeland recently spoke about Cage’s run in AEW on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, and was asked if it was the best work he’s done, replying:

I think so. Only because I feel like he was limited beforehand.

“Throughout the years you keep hitting a glass ceiling, and some will break through but I don’t think it was ever meant for him to break through.”

Copeland has previously described Cage’s work in AEW as being “without any constraints“.

In AEW, Cage is a two-time TNT Champion, adding to a list of accomplishments that include the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Impact World Championship and being a WWE Grand Slam Champion.
