An absent AEW star is having an impact on two championships, with plans being revealed ahead of the upcoming pay-per-view.
In ROH, Dustin Rhodes holds two separate championships as a member of the Sons of Texas.
Alongside Sammy Guevara, Rhodes is the ROH World Tag Team Champion, while also holding the World Six-Man Tag Team Championship with Marshall & Ross Von Erich.
Having undergone double knee surgery, Dustin Rhodes will be time away from in-ring action as he recovers, with no indication of a return date at the time of writing.
With ROH Death Before Dishonor on August 29, plans for two championships are coming together, thanks to the bonds between the Sons of Texas.
During a backstage segment which has since been shared on social media, it was indicated that Sammy Guevera will replace Rhodes alongside the Von Erichs, with Marshall saying:
“Man, Dustin is what brought us together. We all know that, but we formed a brotherhood. I feel it. I feel it 100%.
“We’ve got this pay-per-view coming up, and we’ve got a spot to fill, and we’ve been talking as brothers.
“We wouldn’t want anyone else to take that spot other than you, man.”

As for the ROH World Tag Team Champion, Guevara recognised that he needed a partner, too, but was less forthcoming with his plans, stating:
“I also have a spot to fill… ermmm…”
Marshal would interject to easy Guevara’s conscience as he pondered with of the Von Erichs he should team with, saying:
“Whomever you pick, my brother or I, it’s been us-versus-the-world our whole careers.
“For this, either of us, it doesn’t matter, brother, we’re there for you.
“We’ll go to war for you, brother. We’re doing this for Dustin.”

With Guevara saying it’s “Sons of Texas forever”, a decision wasn’t made on who would he would choose, with only a week until the pay-per-view.
At the time of writing, matches for either of the tag team championships are yet to be announced for ROH Death Before Dishonor.
