The names of several AEW stars who are planned to be staying on Dynamite when the company’s ‘brand split’ comes into play have been revealed.
While there has been no official announcement of the rumored Saturday AEW show, potentially titled AEW Collision based on a trademark filing, it seems extremely likely based on reports from numerous reputable outlets.
Adding to this was Dave Meltzer via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, who would report that Punk’s return and likely the debut of the primetime Saturday show are planned to be taking place on June 17, from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
However, while Punk is seemingly set for a stint on Saturday nights as the top star of the new show, what of his former adversaries in The Elite?
According to Meltzer, once again in the WON, the plan is to have them remain a fixture of AEW Dynamite, along with Blackpool Combat Club.
Meltzer wrote:
“The Elite and BCC will remain the top attractions on the Wednesday Dynamite show”
The idea of the brand split appears largely to be a way to keep people separate if they have issues with each other (like the Elite and Punk, but obviously there are others too).
While there has been no announcement from AEW regarding the Saturday show, Meltzer states one is expected “very shortly” with AEW having already booked the United Center for the event.
The plan is said to be to present the new show as equal to Dynamite in terms of star power, presentation, etc.
There had reportedly been a meeting planned with Punk, Chris Jericho, Tony Khan, FTR and maybe others, so we’ll keep you updated if there’s any word on that – Meltzer mentioned in the Observer that this meeting has not yet taken place. To read the latest on Punk’s planned return, click here.
