AEW Star Given Randy Orton Feud As Incentive To Stay In WWE? WWE

AEW star Matt Hardy has reflected on his last run in WWE that came to an end in March 2020 after a feud with Randy Orton.

The feud started in February 2020 and came in the wake of Orton attacking Edge, with the Viper going on to attack Hardy.

It wouldn’t lead to a match between the pair, but that doesn’t stop it being, according to Hardy, an angle he still enjoyed, though he speculated it was offered in the hope he’d stay with WWE.

Speaking about his final months in WWE on Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the AEW star said:

“One of my favourite moments with Randy, as crazy as this is, was right before I left in those last three years, where we did the promo and I came out to take up for Adam Copeland and then he attacks me, then I have this brace on my neck and that was initially going to be it.

“But the segment, Vince loved the segments so much, he loved the interaction, he loved our character work and apparently, it did a decent number too.

“So then I came back the next week and I was going to originally have a virtually three-segment match. And then I was going to wrestle him after having this neck brace on, my neck was broken or fractured or whatever.

“And it ended up changing because I think that was a bone they were trying to throw me to try and get me to re-sign, and maybe I’d do it if I was in this angle with Randy, they were promising me some other stuff with Bray and The Fiend going forward.

“Anyway, long story short, we ended up doing a promo again and then he did the deal where he gave me another con-chair-to and then he put me out on the stairs and did another con-chair-to. But the concern, the legitimate concern in people’s faces and just the way they gave a sh*t, whenever I left WWE and Randy was the guy that took me out, I was just so glad it was him.

“Someone that I liked so much, someone I trusted too, that was actually very, very safe. So that’s one of my favourite moments. If anyone was going to write me off from WWE TV, I was happy it was Randy.”

Following his departure from WWE, Hardy would make his AEW debut on the March 18, 2020 episode of AEW Dynamite, bringing his “Broken” gimmick with him.

Orton recently returned to our screens at WWE Survivor Series in the WarGames match and had his first singles match in over eighteen months against Dominik Mysterio on the subsequent episode of WWE Raw.

Matt Riddle has recently reacted to Orton’s praise of the former WWE star during their time together as RK-Bro.
