AEW Star Says Roman Reigns Being Pinned Is A ‘Big Deal’ WWE

Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns suffered his first pinfall defeat in over three years at last weekend’s Money In The Bank premium live event in London.

Reigns was pinned by Jey Uso during the Bloodline Civil War main event between he and Solo Sikoa and the Usos, setting up a title match between Jey and Roman for SummerSlam.

Everyone within the wrestling world has had their opinion on Reigns taking a pinfall loss at Money In The Bank, including it being met with trepidation within the company itself.

Speaking on the Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, AEW’s Matt Hardy discussed the match, noting that it is a ‘big deal’ to see him take a pinfall loss.

He said:

“First and foremost, I wanna say that I love how big of a story this is because Roman hasn’t been pinned in so long, so obviously the first person that did it was gonna be a big deal, and this is a huge deal for Jey Uso. So I’m very curious where they go from here, in this program, in the whole Bloodline story because it’s been great. I’ve said this before, it’s one of the best stories ever in wrestling. So I’m excited to see what’s next between Jey Uso and Roman Reigns.”

When asked if Roman taking a pinfall loss prior to losing the championship hurts the eventual moment when he loses the title, Matt said:

“I don’t know. You can kind of look at it on different levels. One, Roman has been pinned. But there’s also another level of Roman hasn’t lost the title, so you have to keep that in mind. So we’re almost working on two different levels, two different layers here with the Jey Uso story and the Cody Rhodes story.”

Roman Reigns is set to be taken to ‘Tribal Court’ on tonight’s episode of SmackDown (July 7) in Madison Square Garden.

Matt Hardy will be in action in the AEW Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament on tonight’s Rampage show, teaming with Jeff Jarrett against Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia.
