An independent wrestling star has opened up about his current contract status, having previously caught the attention of AEW’s Tony Khan.
In 2024, Michael Oku made his non-televised AEW debut at the August 21 episode of Dynamite, defeating Serpentico.
Prior to that, Oku challenged MJF for the AEW American Championship at RevPro Summer Sizzler, once again in August.
It would subsequently be reported that AEW owner Tony Khan ‘liked’ the British independent star, although there had been no indication as to whether a contract offer was forthcoming.
During a recent interview with POST Wrestling, Oku confirmed that he wasn’t currently under a contract with AEW, saying:
“That’s correct, we’re not under contract, which is why it’s very cool that we’ve been brought down many times by AEW and we’ve worked with them. But yeah, not contracted, but we have a visa.”
With Will Ospreay currently benefiting from being United Kingdom-based and flying out to fulfil AEW commitments, Oku was asked about that being on option for him and fellow wrestler, Amira, saying:
“When it comes to myself and Amira, I think we’ve spoken about it, we’re open to uprooting if it needs be.
We’re not like, stuck in our heads being like, we need to stay here, we need to stay in the UK.
“So yeah, we’re open to even living in the US if that’s what’s needed.”

Ospreay had previously revealed that being able to stay in the UK was one of the reasons he chose to sign with AEW over WWE.
Oku has competed in CMLL, an international partner of AEW, debuting at Arena Mexico in June 2024.
He is the current Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion in RevPro having defeated Luke Jacobs to regain the title at Uprising in December 2024.
