AEW Star Reacts To Iconic Venue Return After 14 Years AEW

An AEW star has reacted to their return to an iconic international venue after an absence of fourteen years.

June 18 saw AEW make its debut at Arena Mexico with the latest Dynamite: Grand Slam taking place.

The show saw The Beast Mortos team with Death Riders (Jon Moxley & Wheeler Yuta) and The Young Bucks, defeating The Opps (Kaysuyori Shibata, Powerhouse Hobbs & Samoa Joe), Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay.

AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam marked the first time that The Beast Mortos has been in Arena Mexico since June 2011.

Reflecting on his return after a fourteen-year absence, The Beast Mortos shared his thoughts on Instagram, thanking Tony Khan and CMLL’s Salvador Lutteroth for the opportunity, saying:

“I can’t find the words to describe how blessed I am because last Wednesday, something unexpected came into my life and my professional career. I stepped foot in the cathedral of wrestling again after 14 years, where this wonderful dream began.

“Not only that, I had the opportunity for my family (my mother, nephews, and my son) to see me for the first time in my career at a big event and in an arena like the Mexico City Arena.

“I also want to thank @tonyrkhan and Mr. Salvador Lutteroth for the opportunity to make this possible and for this dream to continue.

“I also want to thank my special person who came into my life as a beautiful blessing and who was also there to support me.

“And of course, I’m grateful to all the fans who are always there supporting me.

“And above all, I’m grateful to God. Ecclesiastes 3:1.”

The “special person” is likely a reference to Mercedes Mone, with confirmation that the pair are in a relationship emerging recently.

Mone would respond to the Instagram post with a message to The Beast Mortos that read:

“Blessings to those who don’t give up on their dreams 🔥”

For those unfamiliar with Ecclesiastes 3:1, the King James Version of the Bible interprets the verse as:

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”

Among the photos that form the Instagram post was, as can be seen below, one of Mercedes Mone, The Beast Mortos and his family.

The Beast Mortos last competed at Arena Mexico as Semental, teaming with Disturbio in a losing effort against Camaleon & Robin in a Two Out of Three Falls match for CMLL on June 28, 2011.
