All Elite Wrestling already has one active champion, AEW World Champion Chris Jericho. The first women’s champion is also set to be crowned on AEW’s TNT debut in a match between Nyla Rose and Riho.
Besides from the build to the Full Gear pay-per-view, AEW’s first few weeks of TV will be focused on the Tag Team Championships, with a championship tournament set to take place.
In the next few months AEW will have three active championships. However, Executive Vice President Cody has teased that a fourth could be on the way.
While speaking to IGN, the former WWE Superstar revealed that AEW higher-ups are considering a new championship, and teased that it could be a TV title:
“There’s a title we’re considering and it’s something people can probably guess since we’re going to be on TV, hint hint, but there are no plans for it at the moment. Right now we revolve around the AEW Championship and in D.C. we’re going to name the first ever AEW Women’s Champion, and that’s such a beautiful belt. I don’t know if people know, up close, that rose gold is layered into it. Brandi, Kenny Omega, and Tony did a great job getting that title.
Cody then poked some fun at Chris Jericho after Y2J lost his AEW World Championship last week. Cody said that there will be some “guidelines” in place for how the winner of the new championship looks after it.
“There’s going to be some guidelines laid out for whoever wins that title though. Some guidelines about how they’re supposed to take care of it.”
This comes after it was reported that WWE is also considering bringing back the European Championship as a new midcard title for NXT UK.
