AEW/NJPW
Will Ospreay teamed with Jon Moxley on AEW Dynamite, with his alliance with the Death Riders being called into question by United Empire.
The July 1 episode of AEW Dynamite saw Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay in tag team action, scoring a victory over The Swirl (Blake Christian & Lee Johnson).
Ospreay has been associated with Death Riders since AEW Dynasty, which saw Moxley retain the Continental Championship against The Aerial Assassin, appearing to awaken a new sense of purpose in the star.
That purpose brought Ospreay to the ring last night, sporting the Death Riders patch on his ring gear to confirm he has now officially joined the group, something that didn’t go unnoticed by his United Empire teammates over in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Callum Newman would call out his mentor in no uncertain terms, tweeting:
“That’s twice now.
“You’re a joke.”
All this after Ospreay made it clear that he is “not and will never be a Death Rider” during backstage comments after NJPW Donataku in May of this year.
HENARE would try to find logic in what had transpired on last night’s AEW Dynamite, responding to Newman in a post reading:
“There’s always a reason, bro.”
The star had early sent out a tweet just stating “Will.” shortly after what he had witnessed.
Francesco Akira would be equally as succinct in his own thoughts on Ospreay’s allegiance, tweeting “….” alongside a photo from a past episode of Dynamite with his United Empire teammates.
Ospreay, Newman, Akira and HENARE were all on the same page when United Empire teamed up against Death Riders (Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, and PAC), scoring a victory in the Chaos in Canada match on the April 8 episode of AEW Dynamite.
The Mindset Of Will Ospreay
The is-he-isn’t-he relationship between Will Ospreay and the Death Riders has finally been answered, with a victory for his team up with Jon Moxley no doubt setting a new fire under the AEW star.
Ospreay does have big things in his future, with his AEW World Championship match set to take place at All In London on August 30, setting him on a course to face MJF, at the time of writing, at Wembley Stadium.
Addressing the journey to main event at Wembley Stadium, Ospreay looked back on his own history as a teenager setting out to become a wrestler in recent comments. Charting a course through the challenges of his life, Ospreay is as passionate and proud as ever of his upbringing, reminding the world that he is “a kid from Essex”.
A veritable star in his own right who has come back from serious injury, all eyes remain on Ospreay in AEW, particularly over in NJPW, with his loyalty now seemingly divided between Death Riders and United Empire.
