Shane McMahon has sent a message to his former WrestleMania opponent AJ Styles, following Styles’ retirement match at WWE Royal Rumble.
AJ Styles faced off against GUNTHER at the January 31 premium live event in a match where if Styles lost, his in-ring career would’ve been over.
GUNTHER was ultimately victorious, ending Styles’ wrestling career by making him pass out with his sleeper hold.
With tributes pouring in for the Phenomenal One, Shane McMahon has now taken to Instagram with a thank-you message for AJ Styles.
Congratulating Styles on a phenomenal career, McMahon wrote:
AJ Styles will go down in history as one of the greatest in ring performers ever!
Thank you for your friendship and giving it your absolute best to entertain us all every single time you stepped through the ropes. You set the bar for current and future talent, let’s see if they can reach it.
Congratulations on a Phenomenal career.
McMahon and Styles butted heads on WWE TV throughout the former’s stint as SmackDown Commissioner, with AJ notably defeating Shane in a match at WrestleMania 33 in 2017.
