Here’s a backstage update on the status of AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and some more news on his ongoing COVID-19 testing.
AEW announced last night that Moxley’s match against Brian Cage for the World Title had been postponed until July 15. Next week’s July 8 show is being taped today (July 2) , and Moxley doesn’t want to travel and put everyone else’s health with danger, as his wife, WWE‘s Renee Young, has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Moxley has taken two tests and come back negative both times, and has another one scheduled for this week. AEW actually cleared him for Fyter Fest but he opted not to travel.
This is also something that Taz said during Fyter Fest during a promo in which he said that Moxley was only staying away because he fears Cage, and also seemingly taking shots at WWE, saying that AEW doesn’t run a “sloppy shop”.
AEW has replaced the postponed World Championship match with another Tag Team Title match next week, with Omega and Page defending against Private Party.
