Big Change Coming To Major AEW Event

A big change is reportedly set to be coming to a major AEW event this year after becoming a staple of the company.

Back in 2021, AEW held it’s first special ‘Grand Slam’ episode of Dynamite at Arthur Ashe Stadium, which featured the first time ever match between Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson.

Since then, AEW has returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium every September for Grand Slam, with last year’s event featuring an AEW World Championship bout between MJF and Samoa Joe.

In an update from PWInsider, that doesn’t seem to be changing this year, as AEW is set to ‘100%’ be returning to Arthur Ashe Stadium this year, but a big change will be coming to the show.

There has been talk that the show at Arthur Ashe Stadium this year will be a pay-per-view event, rather than a television taping like previous years.

This would mark the first AEW pay-per-view to take place in New York City proper, with Worlds End taking place in Long Island, right outside New York City.

The plan as early as last year’s Grand Slam event was that the stadium would potential hold an AEW pay-per-view in 2024, which seemingly is still set to be the case.

In an update from Andrew Zarian, the pay-per-view will not be the usual Grand Slam event held in Arthur Ashe, though Grand Slam will still take place in September, instead in Louis Armstrong Stadium.

He said:

AEW Grand Slam will still happen this September but the location will be Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens NYC. Louis Armstrong Stadium is located on the same premise as Arthur Ashe Stadium

AEW’s first pay-per-view of 2024, Revolution, is set to take place in Greensboro on March 3.
