It has been confirmed that TAICHI will defend his NEVER Openweight Championship against Tomohiro Ishii at Dominion. The event is New Japan Pro Wrestling’s second biggest show of the year and is set to take place on June 9 in Osaka-Jo Hall.
TAICHI won the NEVER Openweight Championship from Jeff Cobb at Wrestling Dontaku Day One. This is his second reign with the title, having also won and lost it last fall. His first reign was uneventful as he won the title from Hirooki Goto before dropping it back to him soon after.
Tomohiro Ishii has help the championship four times, famously battling Katsuyori Shibata, Tomoaki Honma and Togi Makabe over the years. His last reign ended at Wrestle Kingdom 10 in 2016 when he lost the title to Shibata.
This is the third championship match to be made official for Dominion. Kazuchika Okada is scheduled to defend the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Chris Jericho. Meanwhile, Kota Ibushi will defend his IWGP Intercontinental Championship in a rematch from G1 Supercard when he takes on Tetsuya Naito.
