Cody Rhodes Next WWE Championship Match Confirmed

The next WWE Championship match for Cody Rhodes was confirmed on tonight’s episode of SmackDown (April 12).

Tonight’s episode of SmackDown kicked off with an in-ring segment featuring Cody Rhodes where he acknowledged that he had his eye on SmackDown for his first title shot.

On tonight’s show, two big Triple Threat matches were held to determine who would get a title shot against Rhodes at Backlash in France on May 4.

LA Knight beat Bobby Lashley and Santos Escobar in the first, whereas the result of Kevin Owens vs. Rey Mysterio vs. AJ Styles saw Styles pick up the win.

Next week on SmackDown, there will be a WrestleMania 40 rematch when AJ Styles takes on LA Knight.

The winner will move on to challenge Cody Rhodes at Backlash in his first defense of the title he won from Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

Elsewhere on tonight’s show, the first title defense after WrestleMania for Bayley was revealed as she will defend on next week’s SmackDown. Naomi beat Tiffany Stratton to secure the match next week.
