Statistics Show ‘Almost Unheard Of’ Level Of Public Interest In Cody Rhodes Leaving AEW AEW

There was an ‘almost unheard of’ level of public interest in Cody Rhodes leaving AEW, per the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The report noted that Cody Rhodes’ AEW departure was the second most searched topic ‘on the internet’ on February 15. It was pointed out that it is pretty much unheard of for a wrestling topic to crack to top ten, especially on a weekday, with the exceptions of celebrity wrestler deaths and high-profile pay-per-views.

This was the day that AEW officially announced that Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes, and his wife, the Chief Branding Officer Brandi Rhodes, had left the company. It has since been revealed that Khan allowed Cody to leave, instead of rolling his contract over for the extra year.

Cody is reportedly expected to return to WWE. There was speculation that the free-agent could’ve appeared at WWE Elimination Chamber, but Cody ultimately didn’t make his return at the WWE Premium Live Event.

It is believed that a financial dispute, and a loss of booking power led to Cody’s departure. Kenny Omega has now broken his silence on the situation, which you can read about at this link.
