Veteran wrestler Dan Spivey has shared a thank you message following his on-camera appearance at WWE Backlash.

After being shown in the crowd during the May 9 WWE premium live event, the former WWE and WCW name has taken to social media to comment on his attendance at the event.

In a video shared to Twitter, Dan Spivey stated that he had reached out to Michael Hayes about possibly attending the show, but didn’t expect the treatment he received.

Expressing gratitude to Hayes and WWE for providing what he described as the “royal treatment”, Spivey said:

“For you who don’t know, (last night) in Tampa, WWE had an event here called Backlash. My wife, Anne, talked me into getting hold of Michael Hayes to see if we could go to the matches. I thought that Michael would be able to get us in, but I wasn’t expecting the kind of treatment that I got there.

“I expected just to get a seat and enjoy the matches. Well, when we got there, they took us to the back and gave us passes to go anywhere we wanted to go. The reception that I got was just overwhelming.

“I got royal treatment, I could walk anywhere I wanted to, say hello to the guys, it was just awesome because I wasn’t expecting any of it. The seats were at ringside, the best.

“I just want to tell Michael Hayes, thank you for doing what he did. I want to thank all of the boys who I saw last night, people I’ve never met before, for giving me the respect, that goes a long way with me.

Dan Spivey’s wrestled for WWE (then-WWF) as “Danny Spivey” from 1985 to 1988, before returning to the company in 1995 as “Waylon Mercy.”

He retired due to injuries in 1995, but did return to the ring for a one-off appearance in August 2015 for Dory Funk Jr’s !BANG! promotion.

With WWE re-establishing relationships with the likes of Jesse Ventura in recent years, we could see more special appearances from Dan Spivey in the future, whenever WWE is in town in Tampa, Florida.
