Former WWE Women’s Champion Bayley has sent a message to an NXT champion in reaction to a match pitch for the John Cena Classic.

At Backlash on May 9, John Cena announced the introduction of the John Cena Classic, an event which will pit main roster talent against NXT stars, with a fan vote ultimately deciding who walks out as the John Cena Classic Champion, regardless of if they won or lost their match.

Following the announcement, a Twitter user expressed interest in seeing a potential clash between Bayley and Tatum Paxley in a post which Bayley has now reacted to.

Commenting on this post, Bayley tagged Paxley, asking the NXT Women’s North American Champion one question:

@TatumPaxley think you’re ready?

Tatum Paxley responded enthusiastically, quote-tweeting with the caption:

There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the John Cena Classic event, with a date, location and format yet to be announced.

There has been a lot of speculation about how the show will work, with some fans under the impression that this will be a tournament where stars advance based on a popular vote rather than match result, led to believe this by “Classic” being in the event’s name.

A tournament hasn’t officially been confirmed, so the event could just feature several WWE vs NXT matches, with every star eligible to become champion of the John Cena Classic.

The announcement has been met with some skepticism, with some fans criticising the project for taking away the importance of wins and losses, and some believing that fans could hijack the vote and start a movement to vote for whatever the “worst” option is rather than the deserving winner.

John Cena has opened up about plans for the event, admitting that it might be a failure and may not be perfect, but stating that it authentically reflects his values and beliefs.
