A new report has revealed details on NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov’s stretcher angle on the December 19 episode.
On the December 19 edition of WWE NXT, Ilja Dragunov faced SmackDown’s Ridge Holland in the main event.
The match was abruptly ended after Dragunov was apparently hurt and stretchered out to close the episode. The story played off of Holland being involved in Big E’s injury almost two years ago.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting the idea was a bit controversial among some in WWE, but they went through with it anyway.
The report notes NXT sources stated that everyone seemed happy with the performance and camera work.
Producers also seemed pleased with the reaction the angle got from the crowd. They were aware that most in attendance understood it was an angle because of how quickly they announced that the next show was starting during the taping.
The report also notes cameras followed Dragunov all the way to the ambulance and it driving off.
WrestleTalk will provide further updates on the Ilja Dragunov NXT angle when they become available.
