Drew McIntyre Potential WWE WrestleMania 40 Match Update

Drew McIntyre Potential WWE WrestleMania 40 Match Update WWE

On tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown (February 9) there was a potential update on Drew McIntyre earning a match at WrestleMania 40.

While SmackDown kicked off with a ‘united front’ of WWE management displayed by Triple H, Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis, there was also a big announcement about WrestleMania 40.

In the segment, Nick Aldis announced that Seth Rollins’ challenger for WrestleMania 40 would be determined by the Elimination Chamber match at the premium live event by the same name.

Adam Pearce would go on to announce there would be six qualifying matches between some of WWE’s biggest stars to determine who would enter the Elimination Chamber match.

The first qualifying match would get started straight away with Drew McIntyre joining the management figures to not only give himself a new nickname (‘DM Hunk’) but also, revel in his merchandise sales of his recently released anti-CM Punk meme shirt.

He confirmed in the short promo that he would not be sharing any of the sales profits with Punk.

AJ Styles was revealed as McIntyre’s opponent, although LA Knight also joined the fray as he sat third chair on the commentary team.

After a fracas at ringside seemingly continuing the feud between LA Knight and AJ Styles, Styles was back in the ring but Knight would get his revenge.

With a referee distraction from LA Knight seemingly costing Styles the match, it was Drew McIntyre who picked up the victory and became the first confirmed entrant in the Men’s Elimination Chamber.

Also set for a qualifying match on tonight’s SmackDown, Sami Zayn taking on Randy Orton to see who will join McIntyre as the Chamber field begins to take shape.
