Enzo Amore is reportedly planned to make a return to WWE on the NXT brand “soon”, but the status of his former tag team partner Big Cass (Big Bill) is less clear.
Over eight years on from his WWE firing, reports and rumors began circulating regarding the return of former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore.
Last week it was reported by False Finish that Amore was spotted at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando ahead of the May 19 episode of NXT, with Fightful Select later noting that the 39-year-old’s indie schedule was getting lighter, further indicating that a WWE return could be coming.
Adding further intrigue to the situation, it was also reported by Fightful that Amore’s former WWE tag team partner Big Cass (Big Bill) was set to see his AEW contract expire in the next few weeks.
In the latest development on the situation in today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has revealed that Amore’s return to WWE is imminent, and he will be heading back to where he began his WWE journey over a decade ago in NXT, however, there is currently no official word regarding whether Big Cass will be following him.
Meltzer writes:
The current plan has Enzo Amore to be in NXT soon. Nothing on Big Bill, the former Big Cass, is official or even talked about heavily in the company, but outside the company there is a lot of talk.
It’s a Jericho situation where you go with the idea he’s off television for a long time with a contract coming due so he’s possibly leaving. In most cases that’s correct, but Jericho also showed you can’t say 100 percent. And Hobbs showed even if they are being kept on television and are holding a title and having big matches, you can’t say they are 100 percent staying either.
After his WWE dismissal in January 2018, Enzo continued his pro wrestling career the following year under the name nZo.
Also competing under the name Real1, the former WWE star rebuilt his career on the independent scene, making appearances for notable promotions such as MLW, GCW and TNA Wrestling among many others.
Enzo & Cass’ Unrealised Potential Gets Another Chance
When it comes to the all-time best WWE NXT to main roster call-ups, Enzo Amore and Big Cass WWE Raw debut on April 4, 2016 has to rank as one of the absolute all-time best.
Earning a deafening pop from the Raw after WrestleMania crowd, Enzo and Cass immediately came off as absolute superstars, with Enzo Amore living up to his moniker of “Smacktalker Skywalker” as fans hung on his every word.
While Enzo had mic skills and confidence that rivalled anyone in the company, Cass had the look and size that seemingly stood him in good stead for a great deal of singles success in WWE also.
Unfortunately, two years after this brightest of starts to life on WWE’s main roster, both Enzo and Cass were gone from the company.
While a return for Big Cass always seemed like a possibility, especially following his most recent run in AEW, where he has consistently impressed, Enzo’s controversial departure made it seem as if we wouldn’t see him back in the company again, despite the sexual assault case made against him in 2018 being dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
Almost a decade passing since his last appearance, Enzo seems set for a second chance according to this latest report, and many WWE fans will be hoping to see his “seven foot tall” former tag partner alongside him when he re-emerges on NXT.
