Former Champion Says If He Could Change One Thing In AEW, Santana & Ortiz Would Have Won Tag Titles AEW

A former champion says if he could change one thing in AEW, Santana and Ortiz would have won the tag titles.

On the first episode of AEW Dynamite, fans witnessed the birth of The Inner Circle when Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz joined then-AEW World Champion Chris Jericho.

The Inner Circle became the centerpiece of many top programs on AEW TV for the next two years.

While Jericho reigned as AEW World Champion and Guevara went on to win the TNT Title, Santana and Ortiz never won the AEW World Tag Team Championships despite many fans hoping it would happen.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Sammy Guevara was asked about his time spent with Santana and Ortiz. He answered:

“I love those guys. If I could change one thing in AEW, I would have made them tag team champions.”

“I know they’re not teaming anymore. One day, maybe they’ll get back together. They’re just so badass together, especially them in the Inner Circle.”

“To be able to team with those guys, they’re such cool guys in the back and badass in the ring. A lot of respect for those guys.”

Santana and Ortiz officially split after Santana defeated his former tag team partner on the October 27 edition of AEW Rampage. Since then, Santana hasn’t appeared on AEW programming.

Meanwhile, Sammy Guevara recently returned and turned babyface by reuniting with Chris Jericho. He will team with Jericho, Sting and Darby Allin to face Ricky Starks, Big Bill, Powerhouse Hobbs and Konosuke Takeshita at AEW Worlds End this Saturday.
