Former WWE star D’Lo Brown has reacted to the New Day’s WWE release, saying that it is ‘dissecting the heart of this business’.
WWE held it’s latest round of talent cuts back on April 24, with 25 confirmed names being released from the company.
Days after the releases, it was then confirmed that more names had departed the company, most notably Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day.
Following their departure, it was reported that Kofi and Woods had been asked to take a 50% pay cut from TKO, with the two refusing to do so after just signing new contracts last year.
Former WWE Star D’Lo Brown Says New Day’s Release Was ‘Baffling’
Speaking on the Attitude Era Podcast, former WWE star D’Lo Brown gave his thoughts on the releases, with him saying that the New Day’s presence ‘transcended’ being in the ring.
He also noted that the pair potentially being released due to office staff looking to trim the numbers would be ‘dissecting the heart’ of the business.
He said:
“Those were baffling. Look, in wrestling everyone’s run comes to an end, but there are certain guys that transcend being in the ring, they become locker room leaders and they become the vets that you want the young kids to learn from, and that’s what the New Day had become backstage.
“They were the ones who were the caretakers of the new kids and helping guys. That one baffled me, and I don’t know all the ins and outs. I hope it’s not a matter of someone in an office somewhere who doesn’t know wrestling is looking at a line item with a name and a number and going ‘we need to drop that number’.
“I hope that’s not the case because you’re dissecting the heart and soul of what this business is, and the New Day are those guys that, you have to have those vets around.”

The New Day Joining AEW Following WWE Release?
Following news of their WWE departure, many names within AEW, including MJF, Swerve Strickland and Dax Harwood, publicly shared their support for the pair.
It was later reported that there was a lot of internal excitement about Kofi and Woods potentially joining the company following their departure.
Unless the pair have other outside projects, it seems likely that we may see Kofi and Austin Creed join AEW when they are free and clear to.
