A former WWE star says she was unhappy with her Royal Rumble announcement.
Summer Rae signed with WWE in 2011 and went on to spend six years with the promotion before being released in 2017.
After five years away from the company and the wrestling business, Rae made her return to WWE at Royal Rumble 2022 as a participant in the Women’s Royal Rumble match.
Ahead of the event, WWE announced her return alongside then-IMPACT Knockouts World Champion Mickie James, The Bella Twins, Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, Lita and Michelle McCool for the titular match.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Summer Rae revealed that she was unhappy with WWE announcing her for the Royal Rumble in this way. She said:
“You know, I was bummed that they announced me before because I felt like no one thought I was going to come back ever. And I’m so good at hiding stuff like pretending that I’m somewhere else…”
“So I remember when they said they were gonna announce me, they literally called me the day of and I was doing cardio… I’m like, okay, cool. And then I’m like, I haven’t told any of my friends. I was fabing everyone.”
Expressing her nervousness heading into the Rumble, Summer said:
“And what a moment. And I actually was so so so so nervous backstage, so I’m like, Oh, God, I only have like a little bit to get it out.”
“And it makes the fans want more, you know, you don’t go in there and mess up a 10-minute thing and then they never want to see you again.”
There is a small percentage of women that get to live out this dream. I will forever be thankful for getting the opportunities that I did! 🙏🏼❤️ Not many get to say “I did it!”. Check out the full episode with @ChrisVanVliet on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts! pic.twitter.com/ceqHcMXOA5
