On tonight’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view (June 25), CM Punk faced another ‘hostile environment’ as there were mixed crowd reactions.
With CM Punk facing a mixed reaction throughout the match, it is hard to say exactly how the Toronto crowd was feeling other than overall: spicy!
With some fans cheering, but also a hearty amount of boos, Punk played up the crowd interaction just like he did on Collision in the same venue last night, and seemed to be enjoying being the polarizing star that he is.
Although the crowd was chanting both, “Pepsi Sucks!” as well as “Kojima!” at points during the match, the night wasn’t without moments of support for Punk as well.
In the end, Punk would land the GTS and capture the pinfall victory to advance in the Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament.
In the semi-final round, he’ll face the winner of the match between Samoa Joe and Roderick Strong which takes place on Collision next Saturday.
After the match, again playing up to the crowd reaction, Punk took a moment to not only glare at the camera, but also do some push ups before blowing the crowd kisses and adjusting an invisible crown.
However, he also showed some respect to Kojima, shook his hand, and bowed before leaving the ring.
Heading back up the ramp, Punk paused on the stage and initially headed toward the ‘heel’ left side to exit, but he then spun around to exit through the traditionally ‘babyface’ side on the right.
For those wondering, Fightful Select reports that Punk and The Elite were situated on “completely different”
