Jon Moxley Describes Moment Eddie Kingston Won NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship AEW/NJPW

In a chat with Sports Illustrated‘s Justin Barrasso, AEW star Jon Moxley described being witness to Eddie Kingston winning the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship.

With fans around the world having an outpouring of joy and support for Eddie Kingston after seeing him capture a singles Championship for the first time in NJPW, becoming only the fifth man to ever hold the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship, one very notable attendee was also incredibly proud.

Jon Moxley was also performing at the event in which Kingston won the title and spoke warmly of being able to witness the victory first hand.

Sharing his first hand experience from being at Korakeun Hall when Kingston won the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship, Moxley said:

“I generally don’t pay much, if any, attention to what’s happening on the show prior to me going out,”

“Traditionally, I catch up on the show the next day when I’m not focused on my match. But this was different. It was very evident what being here and competing at Korakuen Hall and winning a title meant to Eddie. Just to see him here taking in this experience, it felt like you were watching Eddie at church. It was a deeply moving experience. I hope that comes across to the people watching.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Moxley describes why he has an entire dissertation on the use of blood in professional wrestling.

After Kingston’s victory, he filmed a video encouraging Mark Briscoe to challenge for a Ring of Honor Championship that would soon shape the main event of the upcoming ROH pay-per-view, Death before Dishonor.
