Popular Star Was Advised Not To Wrestle By Doctors Before Huge Title Win WWE

IWGP Women’s Champion has opened up about suffering an injury in the days before her huge match at NJPW X STARDOM Historic X-Over.

At the November 20 crossover event, KAIRI defeated Mayu Iwatani to become the first ever IWGP Women’s Champion.

Following the bout, KAIRI revealed that she had sprained her ankle during training in the days leading up to the show.

In an interview with NJPW, KAIRI discussed the injury, revealing that doctors even told her not to wrestle.

KAIRI said:

“I thought I was fully prepared for the two nights, mentally and physically.

“But then as I was training right before Osaka, I sprained my foot.

“My ankle was swollen up really badly, and the doctor told me not to wrestle.

“I got through the Osaka match which really helped me from a mental standpoint, but with Mayu the next day I was definitely worried.”

The popular star also noted that several WWE stars reached out to congratulate her following her NJPW title win.

This comes after rumors that KAIRI will be a surprise entrant in this year’s WWE Royal Rumble match on January 28.

KAIRI is set to defend her IWGP Women’s Championship against Tam Nakamo at Wrestle Kingdom 17.

With Sasha Banks (Mercedes Varnado) also reportedly set to be at the event, some have speculated that Sasha will confront KAIRI during the January 4 show.
