Popular Star Wrestled Major Title Match With Injury

KAIRI (fka Kairi Sane) has revealed that she wrestled her huge title bout at NJPW X STARDOM Historic X-Over with an injury.

In the main event of the crossover show, KAIRI faced off against Mayu Iwatani in the finals of the IWGP Women’s Title tournament.

KAIRI ultimately defeated Iwatani with her signature elbow drop to become the inaugural IWGP Women’s Champion.

The former WWE star has since taken to Twitter to reveal that she injured her ankle during training days out from her title bout.

Opening up about the injury, KAIRI wrote:

Four days before the match, during ring practice, I sprained myself in a flashy fall.
I was told that it would take three weeks for a full recovery, and I almost gave up because it hurt to walk.

However, with the support of many people, I was able to fight through the two battles with my willpower.

KAIRI’s match against Iwatani was the longest of the night, clocking in at 25 minutes and 28 seconds.

Following the bout, KAIRI confirmed that she will defend her gold at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4, 2023.

Tam Nakano then confronted the new IWGP Women’s Champion, indicating that she will be KAIRI’s challenger at the upcoming show.
