Latest On WWE Interest In Signing AEW Stars WWE

An update has emerged on WWE’s current hiring focus, following the signings of former AEW stars Jade Cargill and Brian Pillman Jr.

The past few weeks have been eventful in terms of WWE and AEW defections, with several stars from each company jumping ship.

While AEW revealed their major acquisition of Adam Copeland (Edge) at the October 1 WrestleDream pay-per-view, WWE had already signed Pillman Jr and Jade Cargill, with WWE presenting Cargill’s signing as a major company acquisition.

Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is currently interested in hiring younger stars, so would potentially be interested in signing some of the younger AEW names if they were looking to jump ship.

Believing that history is repeating itself, Meltzer wrote:

“One person in WWE noted that they believe the wrestling war will turn into WCW or TNA or Bellator as the competition in the sense there will be signings of older talent from WWE with names while WWE will take AEW’s younger talent (Cargill being the first example) and this is history repeating itself.

The claim is that a pipeline has developed and some of the younger AEW stars are already talking about leaving when their deals are up.

“Even in AEW there are people saying the same thing, that it’s known that people are looking to leave and the hope is that the number is few because the perception of AEW as the AAA league in wrestling (a baseball reference for the top feeder league, not a wrestling reference) would not be good for AEW.

“There will likely be movement in both directions as there has been, but WWE is interested in the key younger talent”

Another signing which WWE presented as a big deal was the acquisition of NXT star Dragon Lee, who announced that he was WWE-bound in December 2022.

A backstage update has emerged on WWE plans for Dragon Lee, which you can read more about right here.
