- G1 Climax Finals – Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White
Kota Ibushi def. Jay White, wins G1 Climax 29
Kota Ibushi has won the G1 Climax by defeating Jay White with two Kamigoyes. Ibushi is now the first man to ever have won the Best of the Super Juniors, the New Japan Cup, and the G1 Climax.
This match was really special by the end. Bullet Club was ejected at the beginning of the match and Ibushi fought off the assault of White until the very end. It was emotional, it was historic, it was great. As the G1 Climax concludes, it appears as if a new era of New Japan is beginning with Kota Ibushi at the helm.
Thank you for following the G1 Climax with us here at WrestleTalk. Keep it locked on WrestleTalk for live coverage of all of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s biggest events.
Zack Sabre Jr. & Minoru Suzuki def. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kazuchika Okada
Minoru Suzuki hit Kazuchika Okada with a Gotch-style piledriver for the pin. Suzuki appears to now be in line for an IWGP Heavyweight Championship match.
A very good tag team match, Zack Sabre Jr. and Hiroshi Tanahashi will be renewing their rivalry as well. The main event is next as Kota Ibushi takes on Jay White in the G1 Climax Finals.
Bad Luck Fale, Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa def. Tomohiro Ishii, KENTA & YOSHI-HASHI
KENTA turned heel in this one, abandoning his partner in a crucial moment of the match and joining Bullet Club. KENTA hit a running knee on his partner Tomohiro Ishii, allowing Tama Tonga to get the pin.
More of an angle than a match, Katsuyori Shibata even got physical as he tried to fight off KENTA after the match. We will have to see what the future holds for Bullet Club and KENTA.
Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, SANADA, Shingo Takagi & BUSHI def. Hirooki Goto, Toru Yano, Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma & Ryusuke Taguchi
SANADA got the win for Los Ingobernables de Japon by pinning Tomoaki Honma with a moonsault. This was your standard New Japan ten-man tag team match. Lots of brawling and lots of double and triple team moves.
Los Ingobernables de Japon now appears to be solidly on the same page. They had been a little shaky before the G1 Climax started but now they are a unit.
Juice Robinson & Toa Henare def. Jon Moxley & Shota Umino
Toa Henare got the pin on Shota Umino with the Toa Bottom. There was not much to this one but if I had to guess I believe we will be seeing Jon Moxley vs. Juice Robinson for the IWGP United States Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 14.
Will Ospreay, SHO & YOH def. Taiji Ishimori, Yujiro Takahashi & Chase Owens
Will Ospreay got the win over Yujiro Takahashi with the Stormbreaker. This match was very refreshing as we have seen very limited junior heavyweight action over the course of the G1 Climax.
It was a fun match as anything less is nearly impossible when Ospreay is involved.
Jeff Cobb, Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask IV def. TAICHI, Lance Archer & Yoshinobu Kanemaru
Jeff Cobb got the pinfall on Yoshinobu Kanemaru after the Tour of the Islands. The story of this match was that it featured the “weakest” performers from the G1 Climax and how they had earned their spot in next year’s tournament.
Lance Archer had a hell of a tournament and it will be interesting to see what these guys do going forward.
Clark Connors & Karl Fredericks def. Yota Tsuji & Ren Narita
Clark Connors got the submission win on Yota Tsuji with the Boston Crab. The match was based on the internal rivalry between the New Japan Dojo young lions and the LA Dojo young lions.
Connors and Fredericks took the majority of this match and afterwards there was a huge brawl with the other young lions. Good little match, these young lions are skilled beyond their years.
