On tonight’s (June 10) episode of NXT UK, a championship changed hands, ending the previous champion’s record reign with the gold.
Kay Lee Ray won the NXT UK Women’s Championship from Toni Storm in August 2019. Her almost-two year reign with the title is now over.
Wrestling veteran Meiko Satomura defeated Kay Lee Ray for the gold on the most recent edition of NXT UK. Red and yellow streamers flooded the ring as Satomura celebrated her victory.
WWE took to Twitter to share the historic moment:

Shawn Michaels (a current NXT UK director and producer) praised the efforts of both competitors, tweeting:
“Incredible match between these two women. A lot to be proud of. We have a NEW #NXTUK Women’s Champion!!!”
Triple H called Satomura one of the best wrestlers in the world, tweeting:
“An incredible title reign ended by one of the absolute best in the world. A new era for the ENTIRE #NXTUK brand. #AndNew“
Kay Lee Ray held the NXT UK Women’s Championship for 649 days. She had previously defended her title against Satomura, but on this occassion, “The Final Boss” bested the Scottish star.
After winning titles and tournaments all over the world, Satomura has finally won gold in WWE.
