While it may be getting lost in the shuffle with the Royal Rumble so close, NXT TakeOver is only two weeks away. More of the card continues to come together and now that includes the NXT Women’s Championship match.
As reported by Comicbook.com, Io Shirai will defend her title in a Triple Threat match. This has been evident by the direction on TV but it has now been confirmed with Mercedes Martinez and Toni Storm as her challengers.
Martinez and Storm had been tag partners in the Dusty Rhodes Classic, although they were eliminated in the first round. Now, they will have to forget about being partners as only one of them can be the winner.
Martinez laid out Shirai on a recent edition of NXT, setting up her inclusion in this match. Storm, on the other hand, has a long history with Shirai. The two were the finalists in the 2018 Mae Young Classic with Storm ultimately getting the win.
With Storm making the jump to NXT from NXT UK late last year, they have had limited interaction.
NXT TakeOver will take place on February 14, 2021.
