New Day vs. Rusev Day for SmackDown Tag Titles at WWE Hell in a Cell

On the September 12 edition of SmackDown Live, Rusev and Aiden English stamped their collective ticket to WWE Hell in a Cell 2018, where they will challenge the New Day for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

Rusev Day defeated Sheamus and Cesaro of the Bar to earn their spot as number one contenders, to round off a six-team tournament to determine the pancake enthusiast’s opponents for this coming Sunday.

In the first round, the Bar saw off Gallows & Anderson and the Colóns, whereas Rusev Day defeated SAnitY and the Usos before toppling the former WWE Raw Tag Team Champions on the previous SmackDown.

New Day won the SmackDown Tag Titles on the August 21 edition of SmackDown Live, when they defeated the Bludgeon Brothers in a great no disqualification match.

This came just two days after BB retained the straps after getting themselves disqualified at SummerSlam. The reason the former Wyatt Family members dropped the straps was seemingly due to an injury to Rowan, sustained at SummerSlam.

This is New Day’s third reign with the titles, and their combined number of days as champs now stands at a total of 76.

If Rusev Day win the belts this Sunday, it will be their first ever reign with SmackDown tag team gold.
