In a historic first, New Japan Pro Wrestling is set to feature a Stardom match at Wrestle Kingdom 14. The announcement was made on the official Stardom english Twitter account. This marks the first time women will compete at a Wrestle Kingdom event.
BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!
Stardom will have a match at Wrestle Kingdom 14!— We Are Stardom (@we_are_stardom) December 24, 2019
It was announced in October that New Japan’s parent company, Bushi-Road, had bought the Stardom promotion. While there was speculation that this could lead to cross-promoting, it has not happened until now. This will be the first time that Stardom and New Japan Pro Wrestling will interact with each other since the acquisition.
The match itself has not been announced for Wrestle Kingdom 14 as of this writing. On Stardom’s final show of the year, Momo Watanabe challenged Stardom Champion Mayu Iwatani to a match for the title, which Iwatani accepted. This will likely be the match featured in the Tokyo Dome.
American fans may recognize Iwatani as being a former Women of Honor Champion in Ring of Honor. She won the WOH Title from Kelly Klein at Bound by Glory in February 2019 before losing it back to Klein at G1 Supercard in April.
It is also currently unknown which day the match will take place on. Wrestle Kingdom 14 is scheduled to be a two-day event, and will take place on January 4 and 5, 2020. Information about the cards continues to be revealed as we approach the date so check back here at WrestleTalk for further updates.
