An AEW star has praised Mark Henry as a mentor.
Powerhouse Hobbs has been one of the most heralded AEW homegrown stars since the inception of the company.
The former TNT Champion has had the benefit of learning from the plethora of amazing minds backstage, such as Arn Anderson, Billy Gunn, Dean Malenko, Jerry Lynn, Paul Wight and Mark Henry.
Speaking on McGuire on Wrestling, Hobbs was asked about his relationship with Mark Henry. He replied:
“That’s my wrestling dad. He gets on me when I need it. It doesn’t even have to be about the good things, that doesn’t matter, but things that need to be fixed.”
“Things that are going to take me to the next level. Things that I need to do to transition better. ‘This works, look at that camera even longer, do your snarl here, turn that red light on when you need to but turn it off when you need to.'”
“He treats me just like his children. It’s a blessing to have him. I go to him for things outside of the ring.”
When asked to describe Henry in one phrase, Hobbs said:
“Someone who is willing to go the extra mile for you if you’re willing to put in the work.”
Powerhouse Hobbs is coming off a loss to Ricky Starks in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament. This match and post match activities may have also signalled an end to Hobbs’ alliance with QTV.
