AEW President Tony Khan has explained his decision to not have a hard roster split for Dynamite and Collision.
The first episode of AEW Collision will air on Saturday, with the show emanating from the United Center in Chicago.
When reports first emerged about a new AEW brand, it was also reported that AEW was considering introducing a roster split to keep talent who had issues with each other separate.
Tony Khan recently stated that he hadn’t locked AEW into a hard roster split.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Khan confirmed that there will not be separate rosters for Dynamite and Collision, noting that rivalries will carry over between both shows.
Explaining how things will work, Khan said:
“No, it’s not a separate roster. It gives us an opportunity to showcase a lot of the top stars in AEW and feature certain stars week to week.
“I never said there would be a hard roster split. In recent media appearances, I’ve been making it pretty clear that it won’t be and it’s a great opportunity for the fans to see featured stars on these Dynamite shows and Collision shows week in and week out.
“But also we can have rivalries carry over between shows and utilize the shows to make follow-up matches or settle grudges or book big title matches.”
Despite there not being a hard roster split, it is expected that at least some parties will be kept separate from each other, including the obvious ones in CM Punk and The Elite.
As CM Punk explained yesterday, despite his best efforts, he’s been told he’s not allowed to talk to The Elite.
An update has emerged on potential plans for The Elite if CM Punk appears on Dynamite, which you can read more about right here.
This weekend’s Collision show will see CM Punk return to the ring to team with FTR to face off against Samoa Joe, Juice Robinson and Jay White.
