There was a big change announced for a WWE Backlash match just ahead of the bout beginning as the show had already gotten underway.
After big entrances from Kevin Owens, Randy Orton and the Bloodline, the brawling was so immediately violent that referees and security weren’t able to maintain order.
Notably, one of the security guards who was subject to the assaults of stars again tonight was former NXT star Sylvester Lefort.
He was slammed onto the commentary table by Randy Orton on last night’s May 3 edition of WWE SmackDown.
With the brawling in the ring at WWE Backlash before the bell had sounded, SmackDown GM Nick Aldis instead came out to announce that the match had become a No Disqualification Street Fight match and anything goes!
Certainly taking advantage of the stipulation, they would go on to have a brutal match that included tables, brawling through the crowd and the total destruction of the Prime hydration station near the ring.
The conclusion to the match saw a surprise debut from Tama Tonga’s brother Tanga Loa, who is the newest member of the new-look Bloodline and helped Tonga and Solo Sikoa beat Owens and Orton.
