Real Reason Kairi Sane Decided To Return To WWE WWE

An update has emerged on plans for the WWE return of former NXT Women’s Champion and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Kairi Sane (KAIRI).

As previously reported, Kairi Sane is set to return to WWE after honoring several more dates in Japan.

Reports indicated that there are a lot of ‘moving parts’ surrounding Sane’s decision to leave Japan and return to WWE.

Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Sane wanted to work more dates than Bushiroad (NJPW and STARDOM parent company) wanted her to, with Bushiroad wanting to sign Sane to an exclusive deal.

Explaining what led to Sane choosing to return to WWE, Meltzer wrote:

“Regarding the return of Kairi Sane, the basic issue is that she was and still is very close to Rossy Ogawa. Bushiroad wanted her exclusive.

“She wanted to work more dates but Bushiroad wanted exclusivity regarding the more dates which would also mean more money.

“Other things also came up as mentioned last week. She then talked about returning to WWE and had thoughts about returning, particularly with the success Sky has had there.

“She talked with those close to her who supported her leaving with the idea that if she doesn’t, she later in life would always have questions or regrets about it.

“She also felt things for her would be better with Levesque (Triple H) in charge of creative.”

While it’s currently unclear when Sane will make her WWE return, Meltzer previously reported that her expected return date to WWE is ‘maybe November’ after wrestling her final few dates in Japan.

Sane transitioned from an in-ring role to a WWE ambassador in late 2020, ahead of her WWE departure in December 2021.

Following her WWE exit, Sane became the inaugural IWGP Women’s Champion in November 2022.

She dropped the gold to Mercedes Mone 90 days later at the February 18 NJPW Battle in the Valley event.
