Former WWE Name Turned Down Return Offer WWE

It was reported recently that many within WWE are of the belief that former announcer Renee Paquette is heading to All Elite Wrestling, but WWE themselves did extend the olive branch to her for a return to the company.

According to Dave Meltzer in an article for Sports Illustrated, WWE contacted Paquette (FKA Renee Young) to discuss a return prior to the shake-up of their announcing teams for the respective season premieres for SmackDown and Raw. As it turns out, Paquette turned this deal down.

Paquette worked for WWE from 2012 to 2020 before deciding to leave. She has remained active in the wrestling world with her own podcast, Sessions, and in a second podcast with Miesha Tate as well as a few one-off appearances for WWE’s shows on A&E.

Renee Paquette is of course married to Jon Moxley, the current AEW champion, and they are parents to their daughter who was born in June 2021.

Recently it was announced that Jon Moxley has signed a five-year deal to remain with AEW. You can read more about Moxley’s deal right here.

It seems that a WWE comeback is no longer on the cards in what has been a period of great changes for the promotion since Triple H’s takeover as Chief Content Officer and Head of Creative.

In addition to the returns of Johnny Gargano and Bray Wyatt, WWE announced huge changes to their commentary teams, with Michael Cole and Wade Barrett now hosting SmackDown, while Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves are on commentary duties over on Raw.

Jimmy Smith, who had been announcing for Raw since May 2021, has been released. Cole and Graves will work side by side on pay-per-views and premium live events, while Booker T and Vic Joseph will cover NXT.

Cathy Kelley, who left WWE in February 2020, has returned as a backstage interviewer on Raw along with Byron Saxton.

While Moxley’s future is secured, it remains to be seen if, or when, Paquette may make a return to pro-wrestling announcing.
