This week’s Raw was the first since Paul Heyman was appointed as the brand’s Executive Director. The show saw a 10% increase in viewership compared to last week, and it is believed that Heyman and Vince McMahon worked together to run it.
The show was well received by fans and wrestling critics alike, with many of the key ideas including the call-up of the Street Profits and the stage explosion during Braun Strowman and Bobby Lashley’s match reportedly coming from Brock Lesnar’s advocate.
In an article shared by WWE, Sports Illustrated have confirmed a “Double Main Event” for next week’s Raw, part of which will see Andrade and Zelina Vega team up to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
Interestingly, Justin Barrasso’s piece also references the backstage feeling amongst WWE higher-ups to Monday’s Raw, and it appears as if Vince McMahon and others were very happy:
“WWE executives, most notably CEO Vince McMahon, were immensely pleased with the pacing, tone, and essence of this past Monday’s show, which was the first Raw after the announcement that Paul Heyman is taking on a new role as the show’s Executive Director. Known for a repeated track record of innovation, the Heyman era of Raw continues this Monday with two matches that will resonate across WWE’s fanbase.”
If this report is to be believed, then hopefully Paul Heyman will be continued to have creative freedom over the booking of Raw, ensuring we get many more exciting shows like last week’s in the months to come.
