Last night at Crown Jewel, Tyson Fury stepped into a WWE ring for the first time to take on Braun Strowman. In his wrestling debut, the undefeated boxer was able to defeat Strowman via count-out.
Unlike Tyson Fury, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez was unsuccessful in his WWE debut after being forced to tap out by WWE Champion Brock Lesnar.
However, Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE discussed having Tyson Fury take on Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel instead of Braun Strowman.
Meltzer is reporting in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that plans changed once Velasquez signed a three-year WWE contract.
“According to those internally, Lesnar vs. Fury was discussed but never got past early discussions, likely due to Velasquez having the storyline from the past and being the bigger star in the U.S. market.”
Many people were disappointed with the match between Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar, with the former tapping out in just three minutes.
The reason for the short match has been put down to the fact that Cain Velasquez reportedly is working with a very bad knee injury and will require surgery in the very near future.
Fury is not likely to step back into a WWE ring anytime soon, so don’t expect him to be facing Brock Lesnar at the next Saudi Arabia show in 2020.
