Ricky Saints has opened up on being one of few men to defeat Oba Femi in WWE, saying he believes it will come up down the line.

Oba Femi has had a meteoric rise in WWE over the past two years, with him winning the NXT Breakout Tournament in December 2023, before cashing in his contract to win the North American Championship in just his fifth official match on WWE television.

During his WWE career, Oba has only been pinned by three different people; Brock Lesnar at WWE Clash In Italy, losing the NXT North American Championship to Tony D’Angelo, and losing the NXT Championship to Ricky Saints.

Ricky Saints Opens Up On Victory Over Oba Femi

Speaking on Complex’s Graps the Podcast, Saints opened up on being one of the few men to beat Oba Femi in WWE, noting that it didn’t really sink in at the time, but believes it will come back up down the line now both are on the main roster.

He said:

“I think at the time I didn’t really expect, I don’t know what I expected. Obviously Oba is a great wrestler, I definitely could see it even from then why people are infatuated with him.

“I think I went home afterwards like ‘ok I beat Oba, I’m the new NXT Champion’, I don’t think it still kind of settled in for me, because I’m so used to things happen, and then I’m onto the next. It takes me like a year for me to look back like ‘that was crazy’.

I think this current part of my life, where we have Oba and Brock, I’m having my stuff on SmackDown, it is crazy to go back and be like ‘wow I am one of the very few people to have a win over Oba Femi’, and I already know that’s going to come back into play down the line here.

“I’m willing, I’m open to it, and I’m ready for it, and I know he’s gonna want that back, I definitely expect that full force, but it was a pretty great time to have that.”

Who Will Be The Next Person To Pin Oba Femi?

While the number of people who have pinned Oba Femi in WWE remains very low, we may be in danger of seeing another name added to the list in the coming weeks.

With Oba advancing in the King of the Ring Tournament, it now becomes harder to eliminate him without pinning him, and with a third encounter with Brock Lesnar the likely destination for SummerSlam, it seems unlikely that he will win the King of the Ring Tournament.

While WWE is obviously no stranger to running a non-finish to a big match, if Oba isn’t to win the tournament, either Dominik Mysterio, Je’von Evans, Jey Uso, LA Knight, Royce Keys or Finn Balor will be the next to defeat him in singles action.

Oba Femi and Je’von Evans still have unfinished issues from their time in NXT, where it seemed as though Je’von was being set up to defeat Oba for the NXT Championship prior to both men being called up, so he would be the best choice to eventually pin Oba when the time comes.
