More details have emerged on Ronda Rousey’s current role in WWE, ahead of her WrestleMania Showcase match at WrestleMania 39.
At the April 1-2 event, Rousey will be teaming with Shayna Baszler to face off against Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez, Natalya & Shotzi and one more team to be announced in a WrestleMania Showcase tag bout.
Plans for Rousey have changed, with previous reports indicating that she was set to compete in a title match at the Show of Shows.
Per Fightful Select (subscription required), Rousey was originally slated to head into the WrestleMania season as SmackDown Women’s Champion, after retaining her gold against Raquel Rodriguez at Royal Rumble in January.
Rousey didn’t actually make it that far with the title, with Rousey dropping the gold to Charlotte Flair on the December 30 edition of SmackDown.
Fightful reported that those familiar with the situation said that Ronda Rousey preferred and pushed for her tag-team with Shayna Baszler. Per the report, Rousey’s WWE TV storyline will see her eventually challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Previous reports indicated that Rousey and Baszler would be challenging for this title at WrestleMania.
Prior to her WrestleMania Showcase, there was some uncertainty surrounding Rousey’s status for the event, following a recent injury.
The former UFC star recently provided a health update, in which she stated that the doctors weren’t letting her compete.
