Earlier today, we reported that Elias was seen at the venue of tonight’s Friday Night SmackDown. The former NXT star has not wrestled since the 09/03 episode of SmackDown.
However, Elias might not be the only star returning on tonight’s show as it is being reported that a former WWE Champion is backstage at the venue.
PWInsider is reporting that former WWE Champion Sheamus is backstage for tonight’s show. The Irishman has not wrestled on WWE TV since Tuesday after WrestleMania 35.
“Former WWE Champion Sheamus is backstage at Smackdown in Birmingham, Alabama. Sheamus has been out of action since Wrestlemania 35, but was on the road for the company over Survivor Series weekend, where he made promotional appearances.”
WWE also announced that New Day will be defending their SmackDown Tag Team Championships in an open challenge on tonight’s show.
Some have speculated online that Sheamus could reunite The Bar tonight with Cesaro to challenge Kofi Kingston and Big E for the straps.
As always, WrestleTalk.com will have live coverage of tonight’s Friday Night SmackDown.
