Yesterday, WWE confirmed the new commentary teams for Raw and Smackdown.
Vic Joseph, Dio Maddin and Jerry “The King” Lawler will be calling Raw, while Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Renee Young have all moved over to Smackdown ahead of the FOX debut.
However, it is believed that Lawler will not be on Raw commentary for long, and could eventually be replaced by Mickie James.
The commentary team shake-up has seemingly left former Smackdown lead announcer Tom Phillips without a job in WWE.
However, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp is reporting that Phillips is currently ‘producing’ for WWE right now following his removal from Smackdown commentary.
I've heard that as of right now Tom Phillips will be doing some "producing." That term is very broad and vague in WWE
— Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) September 26, 2019
Sapp does note that the job title of ‘producer’ within WWE is actually rather vague, so there is no word on what Phillips is actually producing right now.
This could just be a way for WWE to keep Tom Phillips around until they have something to do for him. Some have speculated he could replace Vic Joseph as the lead-commentator on 205 Live and NXT UK.
Of course, WrestleTalk.com will have more information on Phillips’ future as it becomes available.
