NXT stars Pete Dunne and Tommaso Ciampa made their return to NXT on tonight’s (January 25) episode of NXT 2.0.
The main event of the show saw Cameron Grimes take on Tony D’Angelo for a North American Championship opportunity. Dunne made his return at the end of the match to cost D’Angelo the shot.
The closing moments of the show saw Legado del Fantasma attempt to jump Bron Breakker in the parking lot, before Tommaso Ciampa appeared and came to his aid.
Both Dunne and Ciampa recently worked WWE main roster dark matches, which seemed to imply they were being prepared for potential callups.
LA Knight and Roderick Strong have instead been filling that role the last two weeks, with Dakota Kai and Io Shirai set to join them on SmackDown this Friday.
It was also recently reported that WWE wanted more veterans around on NXT ahead of the return to live events, which could have played a factor into Ciampa and Dunne returning to the brand.
