Top Star Introduces New Championship Title

Top Star Introduces New Championship Title AEW

A top star has officially revealed a new championship, renaming the championship already held.

On today’s NJPW G1 Climax show, Will Ospreay fell short at reaching the finals of the tournament, with Tetsuya Naito defeating him to earn a spot in the final, where he will face off with Kazuchika Okada, who defeated EVIL in the tournament’s other semi-final.

However, it was Ospreay’s post-match interview that turned out to be more noteworthy, with the IWGP United States Champion redesigning his championship.

Instead of the United States Championship, Ospreay presented a new title, which he called the IWGP United Kingdom Championship.

The belt is an alternate version of the IWGP United States title, just with a British Flag rather than an American Flag.

In the post-show interview when revealing the title, Ospreay said:

“I’m the best in the world… Dear IWGP Committee. You know. I don’t need this. I want a throne that suits my needs and tastes.”

Ospreay captured the title from Kenny Omega back at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II in June.

Ospreay is rumoured to be facing off against Chris Jericho in a big match at the upcoming AEW All In show at Wembley Stadium in two weeks.
