Update On MJF’s AEW Future AEW

MJF has lost the AEW World Championship and has been removed from the roster page as we enter the “bidding war of 2024”.

Previously, MJF had revealed that his contract was up in early 2024 and he expected there to be a bidding war for his services.

Recent reporting has stated that WWE believes MJF has signed a new deal with AEW and the current talk is all “storyline.”

Dave Meltzer has provided an update on the current plans for MJF in AEW, writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“They are also doing a storyline that MJF is now a free agent. MJF was not advertised for Wembley and was pulled from the roster on the website to play up the idea his contract expired at the end of the year.

“Most believe he had signed a new long-term deal in 2022 although he always denied it.

“One would think it would be crazy to have MJF as champion for almost the entire year of 2023 if his contract ended at the end of the year.

“But Tony Khan put the title on Jon Moxley who was working without a contract, although Moxley at the time was pretty much sure he wasn’t going to WWE and they had an understanding he was staying and they were finalizing the new deal.”

It was recently reported that MJF would be out of action due to a shoulder injury and was considering whether to get surgery.

MJF lost the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe at Worlds End on December 30.

At the show, Adam Cole would also be revealed as the man behind the Devil’s Mask.
