Latest On Talks Between Kazuchika Okada & WWE NJPW

A new report has revealed an update on WWE’s talks with former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada ahead of his NJPW departure.

Kazuchika Okada is officially a free agent on February 1, but he has already caused much of a stir in the wrestling world.

On January 30, there was a lot of discussion about PWTees being informed that they needed to remove Okada’s merchandise from their stores within 24 hours.

Despite some fans believing this meant a move for “The Rainmaker” to WWE or AEW, this is connected to his NJPW contract expiring this week.

Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update on Okada’s talks with WWE, noting that he is still under NJPW contract, but NJPW has been understanding of Okada speaking with other companies.

New Japan sources have things have remained amicable between the company and Kazuchika Okada despite him making it clear he was finishing up with them.

WWE sources have confirmed that there have been talks between Okada’s side and WWE, while there have also been talks between WWE talent and the former seven-time IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.

The report notes that Okada had been in contact with WWE stars on the roster to gauge his offers, the company’s approach, and to help weigh his decision.

There is no word on any creative plans in place for Okada in WWE, or any specific pitches that may or may not have been thrown his way.

Kazuchika Okada has three remaining dates with New Japan Pro Wrestling, including against Hiroshi Tanahashi at NJPW New Beginning in Osaka on February 11.

WrestleTalk will provide any further updates on Kazuchika Okada’s status with WWE when they become available.
