Oh, 1999… what a time to be alive. Anticipation was high for the first of the Star Wars prequels, Lance Armstrong was on the path to becoming an American Hero and Y2K would collapse society as we knew it. At least that’s what I think was going on. I was 12 and learning long division.
But one thing I distinctly remember is Smackdown joining the airwaves, with its pilot episode airing on April 29th, 1999.
Nineteen years on and WWE is gearing up for the blue brand’s 1,000th episode. The landmark show will take place on October 16 from Washington D.C., with WWE recently announcing on Twitter that tickets for the event will be available for purchase starting Friday.
BREAKING: The historic 1,000th episode of #SDLive will emanate from the @CapitalOneArena in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 16 and air LIVE at 8/7c on @USA_Network! #SD1000 https://t.co/yTWsNJ6b2x

One man who understands the enormity of the occasion is WWE Chairman and CEO, Vince McMahon, who had the following to say in a press release posted to WWE.com:
“One thousand episodes is a tremendous milestone reinforcing the longevity and popularity of WWE.
But it’s only the beginning, and the best is yet to come for Smackdown.”
Excitement should be riding high considering what we witnessed on Raw‘s 1,000th episode. On that night in 2012, AJ Lee spurned Daniel Bryan at the altar in favour of becoming Raw General Manager, The Rock announced that he would be challenging for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble and CM Punk had a shocking heel turn.
Of course, it also marked the official start of Raw moving to three hours and featured D-Generation X bury an emerging Damien Sandow, so there’s still room for improvement come October.
